How do you feel about your makeup talking to you?

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

Personally, I think it’s an interesting idea, but I want to know if it has a pause button!

Yup, I’m talking about Stila’s Smoky Eye Pallete, which, for $40, actually talks to you and tells you how to apply your eyeshadow.

I think talking makeup is an interesting idea, but if you buy this palette, you’ll have to do your homework and figure out which brushes you need to buy to get the desired effect.

In addition to telling you where to apply each shadow, the instructions mention certain brushes by name, and tell you which ends of the brushes to use, which is helpful if you aren’t brush savvy.

I did have a little trouble with the instructions - I had to listen twice because I thought they said to contour an “r” into the crease, and that didn’t make sense to me.

They actually said to contour an “arc” into the crease - big difference in terms of looks.

I can see hordes of people walking around with a big “r” in their crease!

The instructions are too fast for me use while applying the makeup, so I hope they have a pause button so I don’t have to listen to it over, and over, and over while I’m trying to follow the instructions while applying my shadow.

Of course, if the pallette didn’t have a pause button I’d probably come to the web site and listen to the instructions, since it has a pause button.

I do like The Grays, and The Bronzes, but the base shadow color in the palette beside the instructions looks different from the palette at the bottom of the page, so I’d want to see these in person before I purchased.

What do you think about talking makeup?

Yeah, nay, or maybe?

Leave a comment and let me know how you feel.

Why do I always try to find something better?

Monday, October 29th, 2007

NoxemaI’m always looking for the next best thing.

I find a decent face wash, and I just have to try one more, just in case it might be better.

Why do I feel the incessant need to do this?

It invariably ends in pain.

Pain in the form of acne.

From now on I’m not going to give in.

I will continue using my Noxema, which of all the things I’ve tried actually keeps my skin the clearest.

I’ll sit on my hands and avoid asking my husband to take me to the store with the best skin care aisle.

I’ll close my eyes (figuratively of course) when I drive past it myself.

And if I have to go to the store…I’ll keep my hands to myself.

Unless I’m reaching for more good old Noxema.

The Body Perfumery Gloss Me! Hair Serum Review

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

I recieved Gloss Me! Hair Serum a while ago when The Body Perfumery ran a sampler special.

I was a little hesitant to try the Gloss Me! because my hair is long, and has a tendency to get oily.

I’ve also found that most other hair serums are too heavy for my hair, and make it look oily and stringy.

I finally decided to try the hair serum after getting tired of having windblown hair with the 40+ mph winds we’ve been having around here.

I have a trial size package, so I pumped one pump in my hand, spread it around, and then applied to the length of my hair. That didn’t seem like quiet enough, so I added another pump.

My husband immediately commented that my hair smelled good - he liked the A Moment’s Grace fragrance. Here’s how it’s described on the web site

“Top notes of all-natural Italian bergamot and lemon essential oils that are sweetened with fruity touches of peach, plum, and ripe raspberry, followed by a gorgeous midsection composed of a classic floral trifecta of jasmine, orange blossom, and rose. A hint of cedarwood and an enormous splash of the most glorious white musk for a clean, sexy finale. We highly recommend A Moment’s Grace for anyone who likes a soft, clean, faintly soapy fragrance.”

I liked the fragrance too, but I didn’t notice it after I applied it.

I did notice that my hair looked less frizzy, and wasn’t as prone to getting wind blown.

Best of all - it didn’t look oily!

I’m very pleased with the Gloss Me! Hair Serum, and I’m disappointed at myself for waiting so long to try it.

Olay Body Thermal Pedicure Foot Treatment Review

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

I recently recieved the Olay Body Thermal Pedicure foot treatment with a purchase of Olay Body wash.

The Thermal Pedicure is billed as a “self-heating, exfoliating scrub for soft, smooth, and soothed feet.”

Fortunately I don’t have much trouble with dry skin on my feet, but I do love foot scrubs.

I was excited to try the thermal pedicure, but I really didn’t think that it would heat up noticeably.

To my surprise, it did!

Of course it only heats up for a few seconds, so by the time I’d applied the scrub to my hands, and rubbed them together before applying the scrub to my feet the heat was gone.

Now I make it a point not to rub the scrub until it’s on my feet.

I like the scrub, but I’m not sure that I’d buy it.

I don’t really think the scrub is doing more for me than any other scrub would do, and there are so many scrubs that I haven’t tried.

The perfect red…blush

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

I looked for the perfect red blush for years.

I don’t know why I wanted a perfect red blush, but it was one of those mysterious beauty products that I had to have.

Finally, I found MAC’s Premeditated Cream Colour Base.

According to the MAC web site’s shade description Premeditated is “A deep bright vivid blue red.”

The color is perfect for my pale skin, and it doesn’t go on overly dark.

When I apply it with my fingers it gives me a nice, lasting flush, that looks natural - which isn’t what you would neccessarily expect from the bright red in the container.

If I’m looking for more color, I can easily add more.

Although Premeditated is listed in the shadow section, as a cream colour base, it’s not recommended for use in the eye area.

So be warned!

Clinique Happy Personalized Photo Bottle

Monday, October 22nd, 2007

I just learned about Clinique’s Happy Personalized Photo Bottle, and I had to go to the Clinique web site to check it out.

I would absolutely love to have a picture of my husband, or my puppies on a perfume bottle, but Happy just doesn’t work for me.

I do think that the personalized photo bottle would be a great gift for someone who loved Clinique Happy, especially if you have access to their favorite photos.

Just upload your favorite JPEG photo to the website, and you can crop and rotate them to get them positioned properly on the bottle.

For each bottle sold, Clinique will also donate $1 to Big Brothers, Big sisters, up to $10,000.

The personalized photo bottle is only available for a limited time, so if you’re interested check it out now.

What do you think?

Would you buy one?

Even though I thought I’d never buy one because I can’t wear the fragrance, I’m tempted to buy one after seeing how adorable Scooby, Scrappy, and Hunter are on the bottle.

It would definitely be a keepsake - and a conversation piece.
