Listerine Whitening Quick Dissolving Strips Update

Monday, October 8th, 2007

The Listerene Whitening Quick Dissolving Strips didn’t noticeably whiten my teeth, so due to all of the problems I had (you can read about it at The Joys of White Teeth) I won’t be using it again.

I’m sure that it would make my teeth whiter if I used it more than once, but it’s just not worth it to me.

Mystical Beauty’s Weekend Beauty Reads

What better time than the weekend to sit back, relax, and catch up on your beauty blogs?

The 15 Minute Beauty Fanatic Reviews Elizabeth Arden’s Holiday 2007 Everything Glows Collection. I love her swatches of the shadows - they’re so much prettier on her than they are in the compact.

A Touch of Blusher shares her Shopping List for Japan. Great fun if you love looking at makeup from other countries.

In a similar vein, The Muse from Musings of a Muse Presents Japanese Cosmetic Brand Spotlights
Beauty and Personality Grooming talks about Sugar as a Beauty Aid. There are some great tips there - there are at least two that I’ve never heard of.

Elke fondly remembers reviewing one of her all-time fav lip glosses. Ever.

I have a list of the Top 10 Halloween Etailer Goodies at Etailers Mall - The Blog! It was so much fun making the list - although it took me several hours, but I love finding fun new things to drool over.

From Makeup Moxie: Payoff or ripoff? Makeup Moxie reviews Duwop Payoff Eyeshadow Intensifier.

If you’re planning on traveling soon, head over to Savvy Skin to learn How to Protect Your Skin When You Fly. She brought up something I’ve never thought about before.

Temptalia Reviews MAC’s new PRO products - Reflects Glitters & Beauty Powders. It must be nice to have a MAC PRO store within visiting distance. I’d be happy to have a MAC store period.

Have a beautiful weekend.

The joys of white teeth

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007

As we speak I’m sitting here with the most disgusting taste in my mouth.

I finally gave in and decided to try a sample of Listerene Whitening Quick Dissolving Strips.

Although the commercials - and the website show people whitening their teeth who claim you can’t see anything, my teeth don’t look normal with the strips on.

There are bubbles around the edges of some teeth, and the rest of the teeth look like they have a coat of something on them.

Although it might not be noticeable from far away, it’s definitely not something I’d wear out in public - and I’d even be a little nervous if the doorbell rang now and I had to answer the door.

My only previous experience with whitening strips is with crest whitening strips, and I have to say I prefer them.

When I opened the listerine whitening strips by tearing off the strip on the top of the pouch, I tore off the top of the whitening strip as well.

The strip was still useable, but I’m generally not impressed with products that tear when I open the package.

I tried to be a little more careful with the second strip, and I ended up not tearing the strip off completely, so I had to play with the package a little to get the strip out.

I also had trouble finding the strip in the first package since the top was torn.

When I first applied the strip I was amazed at the awful taste! After applying both strips I realized that if I relaxed my teeth would stick together because of the strips, so I’m trying to hold them apart to avoid the unpleasant feeling.

It’s been 10 minutes since I applied the strips, and they still haven’t dissolved.

I’m also still experiencing an “increase in salivary flow” as they so pleasantly term it on their website.

I’m also feeling a chunky collection of gel on the back of my front teeth.

And when I swallow - the taste is pretty gross as well.

I definitely would not wear these at work, or in public unless I was in a place where spittoon use was acceptable.

One of the reasons I waited so long to try the strips was because the sample package didn’t have any material about when to apply them - should I wait after eating, or brushing my teeth?

If so how long?

I was able to find out that I should wait to eat until the strips are dissolved by visiting the FAQ section of their web site, but I never would have visited the web site if I wasn’t posting this blog.

I’m really glad that I only got a sample instead of purchasing a package of these strips.

I definitely won’t be using them again, unless I notice some very dramatic whitening after this one time only use.

What do you do with unwanted makeup?

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007

If you wear makeup more than likely you’ve bought something you realized was awful after you got home and tried it on.

What do you do with that makeup?

If you’re like me you give it to your sister, or mom, or your friends, or you keep it until one day you realize “Wow, I’ve had this lipstick for 5 years, and I’ve never worn it.” Then you toss it out.

That old lipstick - which may or may not smell rancid if you actually open it up to see what color it is, really isn’t doing anyone any good rattling around in the bottom of your makeup case.

However - what if you could give it to someone who could use it?

Not only would it be out of your way, but you’d also have room for more makeup.

If you haven’t ever opened the makeup you have a few more choices - you can donate it to a local thrift store, or check with your local women’s shelter, or Dress for Success.

Some of your local theatres, children’s charities or groups might even be interested. I know when I was about 13 we had a local woman come in and show us how to do our makeup, and it was a ton of fun.

Some of the above mentioned organizations might accept opened or used makeup and toiletries, but you’ll have to ask.

If you don’t want to have to leave your house to give your unwanted makeup away, you can always try your local Freecycle group, or even Craigslist.

I was surprised when I saw an ad on our local freecycle group offering a variety of used name brand makeup and nail polishes, and I was even more surprised when the original poster wrote back to the group (you’re supposed to email the group when an offered item has been taken) and said she had a list of 14 interested people!

So what do you do with your unwanted makeup?

Toss it, return it if it’s the wrong color, swap it, give it away, or just put it in your makeup case and forget about it?

While we’re at it, how often do you clean out your makeup case?

I’ll toss anything that’s starting to look funny, or smell bad when I go to use it, but I do have a neverending assortment of eyeshadows on hand at all times.

RareMinerals Blemish Therapy Review

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007

I’ve been using Rareminerals Blemish Therapy since Friday night, and I haven’t really noticed a difference in my skin yet.

The Blemish Therapy comes in a jar similar to those BE comes in, and instead of completely removing the white label that covered the sifter I just poked a few holes in it so too much product wouldn’t come out.

The powder is similar to that of a light mineral or finishing powder, the color isn’t noticeable on my fair skin.

The blemish therapy does smell have a slight sulfur smell, and I could smell it when I was trying to go to sleep Friday night, and I can occassionaly smell it throughout the day when I use it in the morning. My husband also commented on the smell.

Blemish Therapy can be used on bare skin, over moisturizer and RareMinerals Skin Revival Treatment, or under bareMinerals makeup.

It’s supposed to treat blemishes while preventing future breakouts from forming, and reduce blackheads, absorb oil, minimize the appearance of pores, and neutralize redness.

That’s definitely a lot to live up too, so I’ll keep you updated and let you know how it goes.
