Lush

Wednesday, November 14th, 2007

I really enjoyed visiting Lush.

I’ve tried a few of their products before, way back when there weren’t any Lush Stores in the US I actually ordered some things from Lush Australia.

Even though I did order, I was always nervous about ordering too much without being able to smell everything, since I’m pretty picky when it comes to scents.

I did like the Demon in the Dark soap that I ordered way back when, but I wasn’t too impressed with a few of the other shower gels I ordered.

So when I found out there was a Lush in Minneapolis I knew I had to go!

I was fully prepared to go into the store alone - I figured my husband wouldn’t be able to handle all of the smells, but we were pleasantly surprised.

The Lush is actually in Macy’s in the Mall of America, which I wasn’t expecting, and it really didn’t have an overly perfumed smell.

Even after sniffing half of the products in the store, my husband, who refuses to let me go in Bath and Body Works because he got so sick the last time I tried on some lotion there, didn’t have any problems with his allergies at all.

My husband was the only man in the boutique, and he got lots of attention! He kept pulling me over any time they were going to do a demonstration so I could watch it too.

He was pretty impressed with the bath bombs, and the shower jellies, although I don’t think he’ll be trying a shower jelly anytime soon.

After sniffing everything within sight, I ended up getting a Honey Bee Bath Bomb, a Marathon Bubble Bar, and an Aromarant Deoderant.

We also got a Pop in the Bath bubble bar for my sister in law.

In addition to that, we also got samples of Dream Cream Lotion, Love Lettuce, which doesn’t seem to be on the Lush US site, Honey I Washed the Kids, and Sea Vegetable Body Soap.

So far I’ve only tried the Dream Cream Lotion, which is a nice lotion, with a light scent, but really doesn’t do any more for me than my regular Lubriderm lotion does, the Aromarant Deoderant, and the Love Lettuce facial mask.

The Aromarant seemed to work well for the three days I used it, although it wasn’t slippery enough when I applied it, so it seemed to drag across my skin.

I didn’t have any trouble with sweat or odor, but when I woke up this morning I noticed that one of my armpits is redder than normal, so I’ll be taking a break from this for a while, to try to determine whether the Aromarant is the problem, or whether its something else.

The Love Lettuce is only sold in the stores in the US, and when I got the sample I was told that it needed to be kept cool.

The sample had an expiration date of 11/14 on it, and I got it on 11/10.

Since I was visiting family on 11/10-11/11 I didn’t use the Love Lettuce then - in fact, I’ve only used it once.

The mask was nice, but it’s cold here, and I just couldn’t bear the thought of pulling something out of the fridge and putting in on my face last night.

I did use it Monday morning, and I liked it. The mask was a nice green, and there were pieces of seaweed sticking out of it, so I looked pretty funny when I was using it.

The mask came of easily in the shower, and if it wasn’t so cold when I put it on I’d probably be a lot more willing to use it.

To be continued …

Well, we made it to the Mall of America, and I had tons of fun at my first visit to Lush.

When I found out that Lush was coming to the MAO I told my husband that I wanted him to take me there for my birthday present :-)

So I got a little early birthday present, but that’s ok.

I’ll tell you more about that later.

Right now we have to go get ready for the furnace inspector to come.

He would have been here already, but the company called the former owner of the house, instead of calling the people who actually live here and made the appointment.

And instead of saying “No i don’t own the house anymore, I don’t know why you’re calling me,” the former owner requested that the person who always did her inspections come out.

So the company called us - the people who actually own the house, and made the apointment - and told us that the former owner requested a certain person and he isn’t able to come out until tomorrow, so do we want to reschedule.

No not really.

What is wrong with people?

Are we really going to have to start telling people that they are only allowed to talk to us about the house before we do business with them?

Well, this is being continued a little bit sooner than I thought.

Apparently if you buy a house, and call Laney’s, and they’ve previously been to the house, you have to prove that you own the house.

I guess I better go whip out the mortgage to prove it to them.

Is it just me, or does that sound crazy?

I’ve never had to prove I owned a house before when I wanted a service.

I can see if you wanted to do a major renevation, or knock the house down or something.

But not just to check the furnace to make sure it’s working.

Bobbi Brown Pink Quartz Collection

Bobbi Brown Pink Quartz Glitter Lip Gloss

It’s time for the Holiday Collections, and so far I’m loving the looks of Bobbi Brown’s Pink Quartz Collection.

After viewing the collection I found myself strangely drawn towards pink eyeshadow. It actually took me a few hours to realize - hey, I was looking at the Pink Quartz collection, that’s why I wanted to wear pink eyeshadow, and pink lipstick, and pink blush today.

It’s always nice for me to find a collection that I can wear anywhere, and the Pink Quartz look is one of those collections.

I love the Pink Quartz Glitter Lip Gloss, actually, I love the whole pink look.

Hmm, I’m going to the Mall of America this weekend, and there’s a Bobbi Brown store conveniently located in Nordstrom’s.

We’ll have to see what happens …

Pop-Up Makeup Brushes

Friday, November 9th, 2007

Pop-Up Brush SetI ran across these Pop-Up Makeup Brushes at bookofjoe this morning.

I think it would be really nice to have nine brushes and a mirror in one place, in a container that wouldn’t get dirty or dingy even if I carried it around in my purse every day.

According to Solutions:

This brush set was created according to the strict guidelines of actress Catherine Hickalnd of One Life to Live, Loving, The City, Knight Rider and other television series and movies. They re-create all of her favorite brushes used on TV and movie sets.

Unfortunately, the web site doesn’t list the type of brushes - just that there are nine brushes in the set.

It’s obvious that a makeup junkie wasn’t involved in writing the description of the set, or they would have listed the types of brushes as well.

What do you think? Would you use Pop-Up makeup brushes?

Beauty.com and Sephora - 20% off

Wednesday, November 7th, 2007

Today is the day for Beauty.com’s friends and family discount - get 20% off your order today until 11:59 PST. The discount will automatically show up in your cart, according to the web site.

Sephora’s friends and family code, which is good for 20% off of your purchase is also good until 11/21.

The code is FF2007.

Good luck, and leave a comment and let me know what you buy if you use the codes.

I’ve never shopped at beauty.com, but I’ve bought several things from Sephora, and I’ve been pleased.

Now I’m off to see if there’s anything I can’t live without!

It’s snowing!

It’s the first snow of the season!

The flakes are so small you can hardly see them.
