LA Minerals Eyeshadow and Bronzer Review

LA Minerals Eye Shadow and Bronzer SwatchesLA Minerals mineral Eyeshadow Review

I tried LA Minerals mineral eyeshadow ($8.95) in Espresso and Satin Sheets.

Espresso is a deep mocha with flecks of red copper and gold, that I loved as an liner.

Satin Sheets is a dusty rose, that I wore as a wash.

Both shadows applied smoothly, and were finely milled.

There weren’t big chunks of minerals in them like there are in some mineral makeup.

Both shadows can be applied sheerly for a lighter color, or they can be applied a little heavier for a deep, intense color.

LA Minerals Bronzed Babe Review

LA Minerals Bronzed Babe in Hot Minute is a slightly lighter, less shimmery rosy color than the Satin Sheets shadow.

It can also be used as a blush.

All of the colors were beautiful, although I really had trouble photographing the Satin Sheets and Bronzed Babe because of the pink undertones in my skin, so I had to apply a little bit more than I usually do when I swatch colors.

The Search for Wet N Wild Mega Eyes Creme Eyeliner

Monday, April 27th, 2009

I first heard about Wet N Wild’s Mega Eyes Creme Eyeliner ($3.99) while I was reading some beauty forums in October, and I’ve been searching for it since then.

The liner didn’t show up on the Wet N Wild site way back then, but I’d read reviews, and I knew it existed, so I went all over town, searching out every store that might have a Wet N Wild display, just in case they had the liner.

Of course, none of them did.

I kept searching though, every time I saw a Wet N Wild display I looked, just in case.

Last Wednesday, Earth day, I had my first prenatal appointment, heard my baby’s heart beat for the first time, and I finally found the elusive Wet N Wild Mega Eyes Creme Eyeliner while I was at Walgreens buying all the prenatal vitamins that I needed.

I picked up the black liner, (which I’d heard great things about - the eggplant reviews haven’t been as favorable) read the ingredients, carried it around for a while, and decided not to get it.

I was kind of disappointed, but it is Spring, and I’ve been avoiding my regular black liner lately, and using silver and browns.

I really didn’t think I needed another liner that I woudn’t wear for awhile, especially when I realized how much all of the vitamins were going to cost.

Maybe one day I’ll get the Mega Eyes Creme Eyeliner, if it goes on sale, or when I start feeling like wearing black liner again.

But for now, I’ve found the elusive liner, and decided that I didn’t want it after all.

Don’t you hate it when that happens?

Especially when it’s something you’ve been looking for for months?

CoverFX Kabuki Brush Review

CoverFX Kabuki Brush and Pouch

A few months ago I noticed that my kabuki brush just wasn’t working right anymore.

Things were so bad that for a couple of weeks, I actually thougtht I’d lost my favorite Cat Cosmetics Kabuki that I’ve had forever, and that I was using my Jane Kabuki, which I don’t like at all, so I was overjoyed when a CoverFX Kabuki (#150) arrived in the mail.

I couldn’t wait to use it.

I was actually surprised when I first used it, because I realized that the foundation I’d been testing really wasn’t too dark for me - the old kabuki brush had just applied it heavier and made it look to dark because the bristles were so worn.

I guess that will teach me to keep the same kabuki brush for 7 years and still expect it to work.

The CoverFX kabuki is soft, and applies mineral foundation smoothly, with a light coverage.

If I need more coverage, it’s easy to build it up using the kabuki.

Overall am I very pleased with this brush, and I’m so glad that I got it.

The brush is made with “select goat hair,” it’s cruelty free, and it comes with a nice, black zippered pouch, which I love.

Maybe if I remember to use it I won’t have the same problem with this one that I did with the other one!

Win an Eyebrow Makeover & $30 Gift Certificate from The Model Brow

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

The Model Brow is having a giveaway, and one winner will win an personalized eyebrow makeover, and a $30 gift certificate from The Model Brow.

I really think that the personalized eye makeover, with a PDF of personal brow recommendations from Elke will be really interesting.

I would love to have Elke do my brows, but I don’t think I’ll make it to New York or California, and I don’t think Elke is doing house visits yet. Of course even if she was, I couldn’t afford it, so the personalized PDF is definitely the next best thing!

I have The Model Brow Tamer, a clear eyebrow wax, and the Night Brow Shadow in Wana, and I am really impressed with them. They are the first thing I grab when my brows are unruly, or need a little extra oomph.

You can read my review at The Model Brow Brow Tamer and Nite Brow Shadow Review.

To enter The Model Brow Contest visit WIN an Eyebrow Makeover + $30 in Brow Products.

Good luck, and let me know if you win!

Suave Daily Clarifying Shampoo Review

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

I knew something was different when my usual shampoo and conditioner, Garnier Fructis Moisture Works, which I’d been using for years, just wasn’t cutting it anymore.

I’d wash and condition my hair, and as soon as it dried the roots were an oily mess - it looked like I hadn’t even washed it.

I didn’t have a clue as to what was going on - I thought I was reliving those horrible oily teenage years, but no, it turns out extremely oily hair was the first symptom of my pregnancy.

I wonder if from now on every time my hair is unusually oily I’ll freak out and wonder if I’m pregnant.

I finally got Suave’s Daily Clarifying Shampoo (which doesn’t have a direct link on the Suave site), and started using it with the Garnier Fructis conditoner since I can’t find the Daily Clarifying Conditioner anywhere.

Suave’s Daily Clarifying Shampoo has made all the difference in the world.

It’s so nice to be able to walk out of the house without feeling self-conscious about my oily hair anymore.

The shampoo doesn’t leave my ends too dry either, so it’s nice not to have to worry about that either.

Flood Update

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

Things are back to normal for us, for now.

Everyone we know that was evacuated has been allowed back into their homes, except for one person who lives in a basement apartment in an area where all basement drains still have to be plugged so the sewer system doesn’t back up into the apartment.

We only know one person who’s house was flooded.

The water came within inches of flooding the main floor, but it didn’t.

If it had been a few inches higher they would have lost almost everything.

As it is they are throwing out a lot of stuff -and apparently all homes that were damaged by the flood have to get building permits in order to rebuild.

There is speculation that the city is going to deny some homes the building permits because they want to buy out the homes so they don’t have to deal with the homes flooding again, so the worries aren’t nearly over for the families that were flooded.

Yesterday when we were driving home I was amazed at how high the river still was in some areas - it looked like it was actually touching the walls of one of the homes we passed.

Even though the river crested Saturday, and has been falling since then, it’s still pretty high.

And another crest is expected in 2 weeks or so.

I hope it won’t be as bad as this one was.

What Are Your Favorite Safe For Pregnancy Products?

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

In case you’ve noticed, I’ve been missing in action a little.

It turns out I’m going to have a baby, and my “morning sickness” acts up when I sit in my computer desk, and the computer is turned on.

If the computer is off and I sit down it’s fine.

Isn’t that odd?

Now I’m looking for stuff that’s safe to use while I’m pregnant.

What did you use, and what do you recommend?

Any advice for bath and body products, and makeup is welcome.

Did you change the products that you used while you were pregnant, or did you use the same stuff you’ve always used?
