There’s yet another article out about lipsticks containing lead.

The study the article references was done by the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, and can be found at A Poison Kiss: The Problem of Lead in Lipstick.

33 brand name red lipsticks were tested and over half contained detectable levels of lead.

The FAQ about the report also says that unless you have access to laboratory testing, you can’t make sure that your lipsticks don’t contain lead.

Smurfette posted another story about lead in lipstick,Pretty Little Lie, which also contains information about lead in Estee Lauder, Clinique, and Arbonne lipsticks, in the Mystical Beauty Forums in February.

The article also contains responses from several companies about lead in lipsticks.

Will knowing that certain lipsticks contain lead affect the brands you use, or the amount of lipstick you wear?

I’ll probably avoid the lipsticks that tested high for lead, but since only red lipsticks were tested, and I’m not in the market for red right now, it won’t really affect me.

Several different brands also had different amounts of lead in different colors of lipstick - the Wet N Wild Mega Colors Cherry Blossom had less than 0.02 ppm lead, but the Wet N Wild Cherry Frost had 0.06 ppm lead.

So you can’t just say no Wet N Wild lipsticks have lead in them - some formulations do, and some don’t.
