The fish and snakes are moving!

Friday, January 25th, 2008

That’s right - I’ve decided that the fish and the snakes need their own home on the web.

From now on you can read about my fish at the Northern Lights Aquatics Blog, or at the Northern Lights Aquatics Forums, which also feature the Fargo/Moorhead Fish Keepers Forums.

You can read about the ball pythons and panther chameleons ( I know, I haven’t told you about the chameleons yet, have I?) at the Northern Lights Reptiles Blog.

I hope to see you over there.

Crazy Dreams

Saturday, November 11th, 2006

I had the craziest dream last night.

I dreamt that I was looking for Sheila in her cage, and all of a sudden I saw two little snake heads, instead of one big head.

The next thing a saw there were two little snakes, which looked like garter snakes, but in my dream I knew they looked like garter snakes, but they were ball pythons gliding out from the hide.

Then I looked over and saw pink in the corner of the cage, and I realized there was a corn snake in there.

Then I see Sheila slithering about, and I thought it must have been something in the substrate.

Now don’t ask me how we could manage to add new substrate and not notice 3 snakes in it.

I think I need more sleep!

Let’s make that more crazydreamless sleep.

That was a wierd dream.

Monty’s gone

Thursday, August 24th, 2006

I came home from work today and discovered that Monty had passed away.

We kind of thought it was coming - Monty still hasn’t eaten, but we were both holding out hope.

I am so sad :-(

Sheila is still doing well, and I hope she stays that way.

I will never buy anything other than fish, if that, at Petco again.

I knew I should have went and looked for a reputable breeder, but I was too impatient.

And it really cost me.

We did discover that the snakes have snake mites last night. I’m not sure if that contributed to Monty’s death or not, but it probably did.

Snake mites can’t infect humans, or animals, but they do infect snakes, and they can lead to death in large enough numbers.

We’ve only seen one mite since we’ve got the snakes - and that was last night, so they are sneaky little buggers.

We are working on getting rid of them, and moving Sheila to her new 75 gallon tank. I guess we don’t have to worry about making sure Monty’s tank is as big as Sheila’s anymore :-(.

Well, I better go, I’m trying to catch up on some work, but I can’t stop thinking about poor Monty.

Between this and the kitty cat it’s been a long, long, emotionally draining week.

Our great garage sale find!

Monday, August 21st, 2006

Since DH and I have been in MN, we’ve went to a lot of garage sales - our best find so far has been a 55 gallon aquarium, with a wooden stand, a hood, and rocks, and a 3 decorations for $100.

We didn’t get the pump because we are going to use the tank for Sheila. Monty still isn’t eating, and we hope that if he gets his own home he will feel more comfortable and start eating.

We finally got the tank cleaned out, yesterday, we were looking for a screen to cover the top of the aquarium so Sheila can’t escape from it.

When we went to buy the screen - we got the biggest screen they offered - a 55 gallon screen.

DH took it to a 55 gallon tank in Petsmart to see if it fit…and it did - but that aquarium looked a lot smaller than our aquarium.

We looked around and realized that our aquarium is a 75 gallon aquarium!

So we were both walking around Petsmart looking all depressed and in shock because we thought we’d bought a 55 gallon aquarium, and actually got a bigger, 75 gallon aquarium.

Unfortunately, that means that DH will have to build a screen to keep Sheila in the tank - so that’s why we were disappointed.

But it will be ok. I’m sure that Sheila will love the extra space.

We are thinking that she is a female ball python, and they can grow from 4-6 feet long, so even though most people say they need at least a 30 gallon aquarium to live in, I think she’ll be happy with the 75 gallon aquarium, and I’m glad that she will have lots of space.

Of course we probably won’t be able to get as big an aquarium for Monty…but he’s so much smaller than Sheila is, so we’ll worry about that later.

Of course now that I know that it’s a 75 gallon tank, it kind of makes me wish we’d gotten the pump!

After all, we are planning on getting a fish tank sometime.

Hi! I’m back

Wednesday, August 16th, 2006

Hi - I’m back and life is back to normal!

It sure is nice :-)

I’ll have pictures of the changes in the house up soon, and I’m working on adding some new etailers to Etailers Mall too, so we’ll have quiet a few new etailers in the next few days!

Everyone loved the snakes - I was really suprised :-)

A few people even held them, and two women wanted one of their own :-)

We’ll see if they get one though.

We found a great new 50 gallon aquarium with a stand at a yard sale, so we are working on getting that cleaned up, and ready for Sheila.

We’re going to leave Monty where he is, since he still isn’t eating, and I don’t want to stress him out too much.

Good Morning

Friday, July 21st, 2006

How are you?

I’m doing good, I’m going to a baby shower for 2 of my cousins this weekend, so that should be fun.

I’m riding up with one of my other cousins, and her 2 daughters, and I’m excited about getting to know them.

I’m still getting the “Where are you from?” questions whenever I go out. I guess Minnesota doesn’t get too many Southern accents. :-)

We finally named the snake we hope is a female Sheila…

because we’d had her for a week, and didn’t have a name for her, and I had the song “Oh, oh Sheila” running through my head.

Of course, now I constantly have the song running through my head.

It’s getting rather annoying.

Sheila is pretty shy - she stays underneath the water bowl almost constantly.

I walked over to the cage last night, and she had her head poking out, so I called Jeff.

I guess he spooked her, because she sure did jerk her hair back under the water bowl pretty fast!

Monty moves around a little, and explores the cage. He’s been on top of the hide box since yesterday, so it’s pretty cool.

We’ll I’m off to look for a job, and clean house some more :-)

What fun.

I’m in Minnesota

Wednesday, July 12th, 2006

I’m in Minnesota, we are supposed to close on the house today, so I am really excited!

Almost every where I go someone asks me about my accent, it’s kind of funny.

We got a lovely new housewarming present for Jeff…I think he got tired of me saying I want a kitty :-)

He’s allergic, so I know I can’t have one without endangering his health but still….they are so cute!

So we got 2 ball pythons.

One of them has been moving around a little, and the other one has been hiding under the water dish since we got her.

The male is named Monty…as in Monty Python.

We haven’t named the female yet….any ideas?
