Mystical Beauty’s Musings

You might remember my previous spider post.

To set the scene, I’m antisocial. I don’t know anyone in my neighborhood. So I was kind of worried when of the kids that lives in the neighborhood came over today and asked to use the phone. (I was worried about him going up to strangers houses, I know one of the guys that lives down the street is wierd!) The boy looked about 7 or 8, and I’ve seen him before, so I figured it was ok. He couldn’t get ahold of anyone, so I asked him who he was trying to call, and if everything was ok.

He said he couldn’t get in the back yard, because there was a spiderweb, and he couldn’t get ahold of his grandma. I offered to get my broom and knock the spiderweb down so he could go home. He looked really relieved when I offered to do that.

Now, he just said there was a spiderweb-and I know a lot of people who are scared of spiders so I didn’t think anything about it. Until I realized that the spiderweb was less than 10 feet from the monster spider that was in my backyard.

I looked up and that spiderweb must have been about 5 feet wide, and there was a gigantic spider with a huge yellow belly (yeah, it was a belly!) sitting in the middle of that web. I was really, really, really, glad I had that broom.

While the boy stayed a safe distance away, I took the broom, swiped it down one side of the web, then down the other, and started twirling the web up on the broom. Of course the spider got stuck to the broom. When I realized that I just wanted to turn and run away, it took every ounce of strength I had not to run. And the only thing that kept me from doing it is knowing I would have ran into the little boy.

I looked back, asked the kid if he could go through there now, thenstill holding the broom out as far away from me as possible, spider, web, and all, I speedwalked towards the street, and knocked the spider off into the rain water.

I almost freaked out when I thought the spider wouldn’t come off. I was so glad it did.

I don’t think I’ll be using that broom anytime soon.
