I tried a bar of chocolate soap that I won in the Happily Handmade giveaway yesterday.
I was so excited to try it - hey what could be better than chocolate soap, after all?
I’ve already tried the Suave Seasonals Whipped Cocoa Body wash and I liked it, but I couldn’t take the cocoa smell every day.
I figured chocolate bar soap couldn’t be too much worse, right?
Wrong!
I waited until my other soap was all used up, and I eagerly opened the elegantly wrapped bar of chocolate soap.
It really reminded me of real chocolate.
Unfortunately, it reminded me of real chocolate not only because of the wrapping, and the size, and style of the bar, the soap came complete with the whitish bloom that is so common when chocolate get’s too old, or it’s too hot.
The bar was made so that it had pieces you could break off - just like real chocolate.
After I tried to wash my hands with the whole chocolate bar of soap, I realized that it was just to big to use in one piece, so I decided to try to break a small piece off, and just use that.
When I tried to break the soap off it felt … rubbery.
It was just strange - who wants rubbery chocolate soap?
The soap also had little black specs in it which made it look more like…you know what than soap.
The soap also had very little lather when I tried to wash my hands, which I really didn’t like.
I don’t mind low lather for shampoo, or face soap, but if I’m washing my hands I want to know they are getting cleaned - especially with all the messes my 3 puppies get into.
The final straw was when I realized that not only was I washing my hands with latherless soap that looked like poop, the cocoa was leaving little trails of brown all over the sink and the soap holder.
So now my beautiful new chocolate soap has a new palace…atop the rest of the trash in the kitchen garbage can.
I kind of feel guilty - I hate wasting stuff.
But in this case, I think I was justified.
