Mortgage Consultant (MC): We got your final approval for the loan yesterday, all we need is the transfer papers.
Me: Transfer papers? He’s not getting transferred, he’s getting out of the army.
MC: Oh, I just assumed he would still be in the army when he moved here, that changes things.
Blah, Blah Blah.
Now isn’t that a great way to wake up?
We have been talking to this guy since January!
I can’t believe that he didn’t ask if Jeff would still be working for the army at all.
I am so MAD!
Now, I know it seemed really strange to be able to get a loan without actually having a job lined up, but that’s why we went to get pre-approved 5 months ago - we wanted to see what we needed to do in order to qualify for a loan, and make sure that we would be ok so we’d know if we could actually buy a house or if we needed to look at renting until we could be approved.
One of DH’s friends also was approved for a home loan and bought a house while he was collecting unemployment so … I figured the job thing might not be all that important.
Silly me.
So now we are leaving for MN in 2 weeks, and we have no where to live.
Sure we can stay with DH’s parents - but with 4 of us, 6 dogs, and 1 bathroom, that isn’t going to last long.
DH’s grandma had said we could stay with her - but she decided to sell the house - and that’s the house we were going to buy.
So I’m not sure if she will still let us - that’s another thing - the whole family knows that we were going to buy the house, so if we don’t…
I might be a little embarrassed…but I really have no reason to be embarrassed - after all, I did my job. When MC asked why we were moving we said “because DH has family here.”
We didn’t say “the army is transferring us,” as if the army had suddenly decided to go ahead and transfer all their soldiers back to where they grew up, even if they grew up in a place with no army bases for hundreds of miles.
If only we could convince her to let us buy the house from her - if we made the same payments to her that we’d make to the bank - principal and interest only, she’d end up making almost $200,000 extra on the deal…the only problem is that she wouldn’t get it all up front. And of course someone would have to pay the lawyer - but it still couldn’t cost more than the $8,000.00 in closing costs we are going to pay if we actually get the loan. And she’d have to figure out what to do about the realtor, since she signed a contract.
I can absolutely understand why she wants a realtor involved - they say you shouldn’t lend money to friends or family if you want them to remain friends, and selling a house is so much more than that.
But if I’m going to give someone $200,000 for loaning me money, I would much rather it be her.
DH just called and said he isn’t really worried about the house, and that it will work out.
I’m a little bit less stressed, but still!
It would be nice to know for sure that we’ll have a place to move when we leave…in 2 weeks.
But I guess that’s life!
In the army … and out of it.
